Choose Less Stress. Choose a LifePlan Community.
Residents of Life Plan communities like Duncaster experience greater emotional, social, physical, intellectual, spiritual and vocational wellness than their counterparts in the greater community. This is according to a Mather Institute study of more than 5,000 residents residing in 80 Life Plan communities in 29 states. Even during the recent pandemic, Mather reported that residents of Life Plan communities received support that helped them to feel happier and be more resilient than seniors living alone at home.
A Life Plan retirement community offers maintenance-free, independent living residences and convenient access to a continuum of health care on one campus. But it’s more than that. Life Plan communities aren’t just “places.” They are lifestyle-infused environments that offer convenient access to culture, the arts, fresh and healthy foods, fitness programs, and a holistic approach to wellness—all wrapped in a bow of security. People residing in Life Plan communities come from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common: They are planners who made proactive decisions to create peace of mind for themselves and their families while continuing to live an independent lifestyle.
Why does where you live matter so much when you age? “Life Plan communities are places where older adults can find tremendous opportunity for aging well across multiple dimensions,” says Cate O’Brien, Ph.D., assistant vice president and director of the Mather Institute. Researchers discovered that LifePlan community residents tended to have greater wellness in all six dimensions measured — emotional, social, physical, intellectual, spiritual and vocational — than older adults who live at home, even after controlling for factors such as age, income and education. For instance, 69% of residents reported that moving to a Life Plan community “somewhat or greatly improved” their social wellness.
When considering a Life Plan community, it’s important to address the things that may be preventing you from making a move. You may believe you are too active for community living. But nothing about a Life Plan community will hold you back from being as active as you like. Just as is the case in your current life, you choose how you want to spend your time.
