Duncaster Recognized for Two Awards by U.S. News and World Report
June 14, 2023

On November 18, 2022, the Duncaster community gathered for the annual Peggy and David Hubbard Award Ceremony. The Hubbard Award was established in 2000 by residents Peggy and David Hubbard to annually recognize and reward two staff members, one clinical and one non-clinical, for outstanding service to Duncaster. This year Duncaster was honored to have Peggy and David’s daughter Edna Travis present to help us celebrate the recipients.

Sixty-one nominations were received this year, making it difficult for the committee to choose only two winners. Althea Campbell, an Assisted Living Certified Nurse’s Aide, was selected for the clinical award, and Shantae Thornton, Interim Dining Room Manager, non-clinical winner.

Althea has worked for Duncaster for many years and has dedicated herself entirely to the well-being of residents. A resident said, “Althea’s kindness during this lonely time was exactly what we needed…Her thoughtful gesture made me feel so much happier.” Althea’s customer service and kindness set her aside from other nominees.

It has been almost 16 years since Shantae Thornton joined Duncaster. A resident so eloquently stated, “Shantae models a professional work ethic for the Dining Staff.” Another expressed, “The Dining Room runs smoothly because of her hard work, attitude, and kindness.” Her dedication and grace are evident in everything she does.

Duncaster is proud to honor these two staff members who embody everything that makes Duncaster a special place to live and work.
