Duncaster Gallery Presents Art by Linda Madin

November 3rd to December 6th

(Opening Reception on Sunday, November 3rd from 4 to 5:30 p.m.)

From the time she was a young child growing up in the country of Central New York, Linda Madin dreamed of being an artist. She was fortunate to have parents that encouraged her; enrolling her in private art lessons at the age of 10. Linda had an aunt who was a commercial artist in NYC that she could always depend on to buy her the most wonderful art supplies to experiment with. She was also so grateful to be able to spend time in Manhattan with her and to explore all the wonderful museums and galleries. Linda studied art at Syracuse University in the early 70’s, finally settling on printmaking as a major with a concentration on lithography.

She met her husband in college and after marrying and having a family, she put her aspirations of an art career on hold. Unexpectedly a widow at age 55, Linda’s world was rocked. When the opportunity to join an oil painting class arose, she jumped at the chance, finding the encouragement she needed to rediscover her passion. Painting became a wonderful way for her to work through her grief and begin to build a new life without her spouse of 33 years. Moving to Colorado in 2011, Linda took a pastel workshop and fell in love with the medium.  She continues to paint with oils and pastels.

”My goal as an artist is to capture all aspects of life and draw the viewer into the painting. Each day I become more aware of the choices we make and it is my desire that my artwork would cause the viewer to reflect on his or her life and how their choices affect not only their lives, but the world around them. I strive to use color, light, and composition to draw the viewer into the work and evoke an individual response from each. Each artist is individual, as is each piece of artwork, and as is each viewer. The possibilities are endless!”   – Linda Madin
