Duncaster was a proud sponsor of Save Our Schools for Our Kids Foundation’s back-to-school backpack drive for Bloomfield students. On August 27th, Duncaster residents and staff gathered in the parking lot of the Blue Hills Fire Department to help Bloomfield school children prepare for success in the classroom by handing out free backpacks filled with school supplies. 

The well-attended, socially-distant, free community event was organized with help from Duncaster Board Member Yvonne Renee Davis who did an expert job reaching out to the community to spread the word, while simultaneously mobilizing the sponsors and volunteers needed to make the event a success. The result was a fun, four-hour festival and cookout designed to get families and students excited about academic achievement. 

The event also featured raffle giveaways for kids and adults, two live DJs, a delicious cookout and a dance contest. At the end of the evening, all attendees were invited to take home a free chicken donated by Purdue. Team Duncaster did a terrific job keeping up with the growing line of eager attendees. Residents Verne Mahoney, Sara Cole and Bev Thomas cheerfully handed out backpacks, while Kadeen Blanchard and Candace Wallace gave away raffle tickets. Meanwhile, in the Duncaster tent, Lisa Greene, Breeana Sisson-Williams and Nancy Sproat handed out water bottles, educational games and more. 

Acting President and CEO Kelly Papa had this to say, “Duncaster is so proud to partner with Save Our Schools for Our Kids Foundation and to do what we can to help ensure that Bloomfield school children have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom.
