BLOOMFIELD, CT, June. 17, 2019 – Duncaster, a Life Plan Community is marking its 35th anniversary by announcing an expansion. For the seventh time in its history, Duncaster is growing by adding apartment homes to its 193 complement of independent senior living residences. Named the Penwood Residence at Duncaster, the expansion comes as demand for quality active adult living is on the increase as many Americans are entering retirement age.

“We are expanding to meet an ever increasing demand from the community,” says Michael O’Brien, CEO and President of Duncaster. “In fact, 13 deposits have already been made by eager future residents.”

The Penwood will offer two bedroom apartment homes ranging in size from 1,337 to 2,129 square feet and include four penthouse residences. Apartments with open-floor plans and high-tech amenities will provide spectacular views of Hartford, the adjacent LaSalette Park with its ADA accessible walking trail, and Duncaster’s award-winning landscaped campus. Apartments will also feature 3-season balconies, large windows, additional storage, and many other modern features.

In addition to the construction of new independent living apartments, Duncaster is undertaking a significant renovation and expansion of its Commons Building. Planned work will double the size of our popular Aquatic & Fitness Center, add a third dining venue, and provide numerous contemporary upgrades to common areas.

Construction on both projects is anticipated to begin in 2020 with new residents expected to move in to The Penwood Residence in the fall of 2021. The Penwood Residence and Commons Building renovations were designed by Amenta/Emma Architects with construction management of both projects to be jointly overseen by Downes and Olsen Construction.
